2014 Emmy's : Best Dressed

Sarah Hyland
The Modern Family actress got one last good use of the summer crop top style with this trendy yet elegant look. The coral Christian Siriano skirt was poofy enough for award season but playful enough to highlight Sarah's youth. On a totally bias note, loving the ombré pulled into the bun!

Lizzy Caplan
Oh Janis, if Regina George could see you now! Now THIS is how you wear a cutout, revealing dress in a classy (and safe!) way. Lizzy Caplan stunned in this DKNY Atelier gown. And that drop in the back - gorgeous gorgeous!

Sofia Vergara
Sure it's nothing crazy, but it's definitely different from Sofia's usual mermaid gowns. The white Roberto Cavalli with her blonde hair gives a sweet, angelic vibe!

Camila Alves
She might be there as a date but don't count Camila out as just some good arm candy. Matthew McConaughey's leading lady looked absolutely timeless in this abstract Zuhair Murad. Total knockout!

Gwen Stefani
God damn god damn GOD DAMN! Beautiful! I'm not a huge fan of the hair/makeup as it makes Gwen look almost unrecognizable but that outfit! The glitter, that cut, the fact that it's a two piece  - so classic. Versace, fierce as always.

Kerry Washington
What better way to mark the return of primetime TV than with Olivia Pope. Even through her pregnancy, Washington never shied away from fashion risks so it's no shocker her look was one of the more different looks of the night. The orange Prada with the blue glittery peek a boo in her slit was a gorgeous Emmys look. A little end of summer, a little fall fashion, and a whole lot of chic. Best Dressed - it's handled.

Best Dressed: Oscars 2014

The 2014 Oscars displayed a range of trends consisting of pastels, capes, and even one daring actress who shut it down in black. The ladies absolutely brought it this year. And when Jared Leto is looking like an absolute smoke with that flowing ombre, they definitely had to work overtime to bring the prettiness.

Cate Blanchett
The Blue Jasmine actress shimmered in this Armani gown which must've looked amazing in person with all of those jewels! The coloring was perfect for Cate's light complexion and usual posh appearance. Those intricate designs totally fit the royalty/Oscar winner (same thing right?) look.

Charlize Theron
It's rare that any women dares to sport such a simple color like black. After all, the Oscars are a time for diamonds and trains, not the risk of being forgettable. So when Charlize strutted down the carpet in this sophisticated Dior dress, it was a game changer. Not a huge fan of the clear straps, but the combination of that neckline, necklace, and sheer bottom makes up for it. Now if she would just dispose the awful accessory that is Sean Penn, that'd be great.

Lupita Nyong'o
Ah Lupita! Easily the best fashionista to come out of this past award season. She's worn nearly every color to these shows and nailed all of them. I wasn't sure how she was going to top her teal Gucci gown from the SAGs, but she definitely came close with this light blue Prada dress. Lupita took her big moment to shine with the go to princess dress and even added the classic headband to perfect her look. Timeless!

Jennifer Lawrence
Back in the day, long before her contract with Dior, JLaw used to shut it down on the red carpet with her fresh looks. Lawrence sure has changed from then, maturing with more classical looks, but it's nice to see a nod to her past styling. Major props to her stylist for doing a throwback with this red Dior gown to her first Oscar moment in a memorable, and similar, red Calvin Klein. Would love to see her return to these high end, yet youthful, gowns again! Sidenote: the backwards necklace is becoming a great trademark for her.

Kate Hudson
Idol. Perfect. Hollywood royalty. Kate Hudson has been a personal red carpet favorite in recent years, seeing as she never misses a beat. With this white Atelier Versace, Hudson redefined chic. Between the cape and the waist detailing, she epitomized Hollywood glamour on tinseltown's most iconic night. That alone deserves an award.

Fashionistas of the Year

As another year comes to an end, it's time to bow down to the women who brought their fashion A game this year.

Gwyneth Paltrow is the epitome of high class glamour, and her style completely reflected that this year. Gwyneth started off the year by showing up to the Oscars in not only a timeless Tom Ford dress, but accompanied the look with a sleek cape. Really, who else could pull that off? Not one to be forgetten, Gwynnie continued to keep everyone oohing and ahing with her Prada dress at the Met Gala. With style like this, Paltrow's 40th birthday bash on her yacht with Beyonce and Jay-Z seemed to take a backseat to her 2012 highlights.

From movie star glam to a model's every day fabulousness. Miranda Kerr knows how to wow at events, fashion shows, and in editorials, but her street style surely inspired countless Pinterest boards this year. For Kerr, the streets of NYC were her runway and errands were only done in the fiercest stilettos. Hailing a taxi while juggling a baby never looked so effortlessly flawless. Miranda Kerr is living the Park Ave mom dream.

Considering she's probably going to win an Oscar for her performance in Zero Dark Thirty, it makes sense that Jessica Chastain was the fashion siren on red carpets this year. From film festivals to award shows, Chastain was topping those best dressed lists. She made her first big splash at the Oscars in a intricate Alexander McQueen dress that complimented those red locks beautifully. Then came the Cannes Film Festival, where she looked like Hollywood royalty in Gucci (and with the rave reviews she was getting for her performances, she basically was). And most recently, Jessica experimented with a bold leather blue Jason Wu dress at a Fashion's Night Out event. One thing we can certainly conclude from her 2012 style is that when Jessica is on stage accepting that Oscar, she'll most likely be making a bold fashion statement for 2013 as well.

A Trip to the Met!

To continue my new summer Met tradition, I recently checked out the Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations exhibit. While I admit, I was more familiar with Prada's work, it was definitely interesting to see the way the both designers' creations merged together. The designers' collections worked perfectly together with the beautiful outfit collaborations consisting of Schiaparelli tops and Prada bottoms. Even though they collided well, Prada and Schiaparelli were strikingly different from one another. Their quotes really shined light on how the two women from two different eras had contrasting beliefs on the art of fashion. It was incredible to see the women's designs reflect similar messages, despite having drastically opposing beliefs. Some of my favorite sections included "Classical Body", "Exotic Body", and "Surreal Body". And of course, who could forget about those shoes? Absolutely timeless!

In true Met fashion, pictures weren't allowed (and I was not going to risk damaging the collections with a few camera flashes) so here's only a little sneak peak over what the exhibit had to offer...

Classical Body

Exotic Body

Surreal Body

"I’d also hope that my clothes made their lives a little easier, that they made them feel happier. Not more beautiful necessarily, just more of a person. I try to make women feel more powerful without losing their femininity."

Fashion Recap: The Met Gala!

It was a fashion fairytale come to life Monday night in New York City as the 2012 Met Gala celebrated "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations". A night consisting of Queen Anna Wintour's presence, sparkles, feathers, and all the biggest names in the fashion industry...sounds like heaven! I loved that a lot of the A-listers actually took some risks at the event instead of wearing basic award show type of dresses. This is the NYC Met after all, go big or go back to LA!

Best Dressed:
Ah Gisele and Tom! Every fairytale needs a king and a queen! This night was definitely all about the fabulous gowns that the ladies were wearing but it wouldn't have been right to blog about the Gala and not include these two. Let's be honest, their perfection has been leaving everyone envious since their 2008 Met appearance. Still swooning!

Scarlett Johansson in this Dolce & Gabbana gown is the reason why celebrity and designer ad campaigns work so well. The beading, the train, and the tight fit were made for ScarJo. She looks like a true movie star here! This gown is so stunning I just want to frame it in my house(or do an Avengers/Black Widow style workout and potentially wear it).

First off, how and why is Gwyneth Paltrow getting hotter as she gets older? I'm all for "beauty at any age" but GOOP's fierceness has definitely increased since her Brad Pitt dating days. She totally pulled off the slinky and daring Versace! I could've done without the side boob for obvious wardrobe malfunction reasons but Gwyneth's color and pattern coordination right down to the shoes made up for it.

Holly shimmer! After a successful fashion moment with Donna Karan at the Emmy's, Nina Dobrev opted to wear another one of the designer's gowns. The Donna Karan Atelier's texture was so elegant but the gown's details completely prevented it from blending in with the crowd. I love that Nina is finding her own style while working with this brand. Dresses like this that have the wide diversity to easily switch from editorial to red carpet are always the memorable ones!

Gala co-chair Carey Mulligan didn't disappoint in this Prada sparkling dress! She's literally wearing a work of art. This texture can be super difficult to pull off because it can appear cheap but let's be real...this is Prada's designs. "Looking cheap" was never really an option. The way the sequins are reflecting off of everything adds to the dress' complexity.

And then there was Diane Kruger. I love this woman's ability to work any and every fashion trend. She's so fabulous the girl could lounge around a beach with this Prada gown on and she wouldn't look out of place. The feathers, the clutch, the necklace, the way she doesn't even have to do anything with her hair because the whole look is already perfection! Diane Kruger is a natural fashion icon who doesn't even have to try hard.
