Best Dressed Oscars 2013

Holy Oscar Sunday, aka the biggest red carpet event of the year. And despite the major lack of color, the drama in the dresses were bigger than the Best Picture nominees.

Amanda Seyfried

Looking fierce in McQueen. The light colors became an extremely repetitive trend of the night but at least Amanda brought it with the texture and structure of her gown. The light shade was a perfect match for her light skin tone and big dolly eyes. On top of the coloring, the shape was perfect for Miss Seyfried! Not only was it so smart of her stylist to stick with a slim fitting gown for her tiny figure, but the collar and cleavage was totally Oscar appropriate. Take note of your co-star Hathaway. This is how to show off your assets correctly!

Amy Adams

Like the real life Disney princess she is, Amy Adams looked like a dream in this lavender gown. It's not a red carpet until Oscar de la Renta is present and those ruffles certainly drew attention. While I would have preferred a little bit more diamonds or sparkle, Amy knocked it out of the park with that train alone.

Jennifer Hudson

Midnight blue was as close as we got to color on Oscar night, so thank you for that Jennifer Hudson! The shimmer, the slit- all so fierce! I'm usually not a fan of long sleeve dresses, but this Roberto Cavalli was full of so much detail. Particularly loving the material at the top and how it transitions to a light flow at the bottom of the dress. Completely fitting and perfect for her performing role of the night!

Jennifer Lawrence

It's Jennifer Lawrence's world and we're just living in it. This girl doesn't even need a Harvey Weinstein Oscar campaign, that's how hard she's winning everyone over this year/award season. Owning her recent Dior spokeswoman role, J.Law came in full elegance with this amazing train. Although I definitely love the look, I wish and hope in the future Dior provides Jennifer with edgier looks. Jennifer is so young that she deserves bolder dresses, like the ones fellow Dior ladies Mila Kunis and Marion Cotillard sport. Nevertheless, this gown is timeless and perfect for the Oscars!

Jessica Chastain

Oh hello 60s glamour! Jessica nailed it when she described her dress as a "Happy Birthday Mr. President" gown. The Armani Prive with vintage Harry Winston jewels were perfect for Hollywood's newly A-list leading lady. The champagne color went surprisingly well with her pale skin tone and that red lip definitely helped her stand out, instead of being washed out. Jessica Chastain was the definition of Hollywood glamour.  

Zoe Saldana

What do you do when your gorgeous ex-boyfriend is the sole reason for every woman's swooning this award season? Show up in the most intricate dress of the night to clarify you are the hottest of all the fashion risk takers. Obviously. At least, that's what Zoe Saldana did in this Alexis Mabille gown. Who knew black and white could be so fabulous? I was immediately won over when I saw my favorite trend (ruffles) but the belt plus the open slit train? Best dressed of the night, easily. 

Viva Forever Fashion Spice!

"Whether to wear the little Gucci dress, the little Gucci dress, or...the little Gucci dress!"

Ah that quote from Spice World will forever and always be music to my ears. As a 90s' child, the Spice Girls were musical legends and fashion icons for me. My five year old self didn't know much about life back then but I was strongly devoted to two things: my disastrous fashion sketches and Ginger Spice aka my long distance soul sister. I wanted nothing more than to ride in a big red tour bus, wear a Union Jack dress, and talk in a strong annunciated British accent. Now with the Spice Girls reunion and musical around the corner, I couldn't help but take a blast to the past on the girls golden fashion moments and reflect on how they've influenced today's fashion. (BTW- hope this isn't too inappropriate to celebrate the British on America's Independence day...whoops?)

The Crop Tops

The style that was once iconic for female fashion pop-stars has regained popularity in 2012. The Spice Girls were never ones to shy away from midriff bearing outfits and the flashy trend has continued to spice up a girl's fashion today! (and yes the lyrical references are only beginning)

The Shoes

From the platform sneakers and boots to Posh's scrappy heals, was their footwear ever not gaining major attention?! The eye-catching footwear was never really a fading style for the fashion or the girls. Less extreme platform sneakers and high stilettos could not be more popular. And true to her fashionista reputation, Victoria is still always sporting the newest and hottest Louboutins. 

Long Live the Glitter

When the Spice girls reunited in 2007(bless the pop gods for this magical tour), it was like the girls never left their glittery and colorful costumes! Despite their maturing lifestyles, the ladies showed that their bold, girl power fashion statements were always here to stay.

Fashion Spotlight: Jennifer Lawrence

Next week, The Hunger Games franchise is about to completely take over. Not only does this mean new heartthrobs(swoon Hemsworth! swoon Hutcherson!) and a more meaningful plot to lust over(peace out talking wolves in Twilight), but it also means a new starlet will attempt to win over our fashion hearts. Although she may still be an upcoming actress, Jennifer Lawrence is not exactly a naive newbie. Last awards season she scored multiple nominations and earned herself major fashion cred with her looks. New potential fashionista calls for a stroll down Jen's fab fashion moments...

At the 2011 Oscars, Jennifer definitely earned the title of The Girl On Fire(see what I did there?!). This Calvin Klein gown was simple but good enough to make a bold statement for the young actress. Little reminiscent of ScarJo, but that's never really something to be ashamed of! 

At the 2011 SAG Awards, Jennifer channeled a modern Barbie look in this Oscar de la Renta gown. The shoulder details, the slit, the sharp heels...love! Sweet but edgy, Jennifer beautifully played up the newcomer but serious actress image here.

Pretty good for one of her first award appearances huh? Jen sparkled onto the red carpet with this ombre figure hugging L'Wren Scott dress. This look is gorgeous but I love it so much because this is when I first got a glimpse into her sassy personality. During a red carpet interview at this show, Ben Lyons revealed that Jen fangirled so hard when she met Jeremy Renner that she kinda hit on him. Get it Katniss!

Last but not least, the Louis Vuitton gown at the 2011 Golden Globes. I usually don't like when actresses shy away from color at the award shows, but the uniqueness of this dress made the black totally acceptable. Jennifer's ability to flaunt the couture has made for memorable looks and stirred up excitement for what's to come!

Fashion Icon: Diane Kruger

In honor of my 50th post, I decided to shed the spotlight on one of my all time favorite style inspirations. Whether she's gracing the red carpet or taking a stroll with her longterm partner Joshua Jackson(swoon!), Diane Kruger always looks effortlessly incredible. She has great taste in clothing and is a true trendsetter. Here are some of my favorite Diane fashion moments! (Sidenote: If anyone really does make a movie about Grace Kelly, Diane better be casted)

Yes Michelle Williams' 2007 Oscar dress was phenomenal but I'm definitely a bigger fan of Diane's dress from the 2010 SAG Awards. Both mustard colors were beautiful changes from the usual red carpet dresses, but the shape of this Jason Wu gown was perfection. The ruby jewels and bright lipstick only added even more elegance to this appearance!

THIS is how you rock a mini and keep it classy. Take notes ladies! The detailing of the pattern on the shoulders is to die for. Mixing black and red is already a bold statement, but adding that pattern and the belt is what makes this dress so fashionable. 

When she's not taking risks with extravagant dresses, Diane also rocks the casual and cute looks. I love how she took such a simple group of clothing items and added adorable feminine qualities. The blue, black, and cream colors all go together perfectly without the outfit looking "too matchy matchy". 

The Dolce and Gabbana number was a popular red carpet look this year but I think Diane had the best interpretation of how to wear it. The detailing of the dress is already captivating enough, without needing  to add jewelry(says the girl who never leaves the house without a necklace, bracelet, and earrings). The emphasis on throwing her hair back just shows the importance of less is more. Diane really let the dress do all of the work, without over-styling the look. 

I guess if you're going to be best friends with Karl Lagerfeld, it's expected to strut around in Chanel white skirts like they're just your casual Sunday wear. But for your boyfriend to dress like his life is a GQ photo shoot...talk about match made in heaven. If I didn't love these two, I would forever hate them for their classy and trendy appearances.
